SEIU Healthcare Illinois launches new radio ad calling for fair tax increase to prevent devastating cuts
SEIU Healthcare Illinois released a new radio ad today calling on state legislators to save vital public programs from deep cuts by passing a fair income tax increase before it’s too late to protect essential services for Illinois seniors, children and working families. The ad will air throughout the week on stations throughout Springfield and in markets around the state and follows a week of aggressive "Vote NO" campaigning aimed at preventing catastrophic human services budget cuts.
The ad emphasizes the “ticking clock” the General Assembly faces with a legislative session scheduled to end this week:
“It’s not enough for legislators to simply say they oppose cuts,” explained Keith Kelleher, president of SEIU Healthcare Illinois. “They need to back that up with a revenue plan that’s fair and provides funding for critical programs that Illinois children, families and seniors depend on.”
Last week, groups of home care, health care and child care workers in Springfield joined community advocates and allies in a vigil on the third floor of the Capitol to pray for the hundreds of thousands of seniors, children and families who will lose critical care and services if devastating budget cuts pass. The vigil continues this week.
